Unit 5 Humans and Nature Lesson 2 Professional rescue team Level: High School Objectives: Students will be able to identify the roles and responsibilities of a professional rescue team. Students will be able to describe the challenges faced by professional rescue teams during rescue operations. Students will be able to discuss the importance of well-trained and well-equipped rescue teams in their community. Materials: Textbook: Unit 5 Humans and Nature, Lesson 2 Professional Rescue Team. Whiteboard and markers. Handout for vocabulary matching exercise. Procedure: Warm-up: a. Greet the students and review the previous lesson. b. Ask students what they know about professional rescue teams and what they think their roles and responsibilities might be. c. Write their answers on the board. Vocabulary matching exercise: a. Hand out the vocabulary matching exercise. b. Have students work in pairs or small groups to match the vocabulary words related to professional rescue teams to their definitions. c. Review the answers as a class. Reading comprehension: a. Have students read the text in the textbook. b. Ask comprehension questions to ensure understanding of the text. c. Discuss the roles and responsibilities of a professional rescue team, and the challenges they face during rescue operations. Group activity: a. Divide the class into small groups. b. Assign each group a different natural disaster, such as an earthquake, flood, or hurricane. c. Have each group discuss the challenges that a professional rescue team would face in responding to their assigned disaster. d. Have each group report back to the class.
