Lesson 14 Jenny Writes a Postcard This lesson is from the 2022-2023 academic year, the third semester of Grade 5 English (Ji’nan Edition). The focus of this lesson is on writing a postcard. The teaching language is English. Teaching Objectives Knowledge Objectives Students can understand the format and content of a postcard. Students can write a simple postcard with proper greetings and messages. Students can use simple sentences to express their feelings, experiences and observations. Ability Objectives Students can improve their writing skills by practicing writing postcards. Students can develop their communication skills by exchanging postcards with peers. Students can appreciate the beauty of nature and different cultures through writing postcards. Emotional Objectives Students can feel confident and proud of their writing abilities. Students can feel curious about other cultures and places. Students can feel happy and excited when receiving postcards from peers. Teaching Contents Basic knowledge of postcards. Different formats of postcards. Appropriate greetings and messages for postcards. Expressing feelings, experiences and observations in simple sentences. Teaching Procedures Pre-task Preparation Show some pictures of different postcards from different places. Ask students to share their experiences of receiving postcards or sending postcards to others. Task 1: Warm-up Activity Ask students to form pairs and share their favorite travel destinations with each other. Ask some students to share their partners’ favorite destinations with the class. Task 2: Introduction of Postcards Introduce the format and content of postcards. Show an example of a postcard and ask students to identify the elements of the postcard, such as the picture, the greeting, the message, and the signature. Ask the class to work together to create a checklist of what should be included in a postcard. Task 3: Writing Practice Distribute postcard templates to each student. Ask students to
