I SURVIVED – The San Francisco Earthquake,1906 I SURVIVED – The San Francisco Earthquake,1906 PAGE 2 PAGE 1 一、地震描写 Powerful shocks exploded up through the underground layers of dirt and rock. All across the city, streets ripped open. Buildings swayed. Walls crumbled and houses came crashing down. Broken glass, hunks of wood, and piles of bricks tumbled into the streets. 生动细致描写地震时的景象。 Leo stood in shock as the floor beneath him rose and fell like ocean waves. 地震时地面的变化 The floor bounced beneath their feet. 地震的地面 Windows shattered, spraying glass all around. 地震窗户破碎,向外喷洒。 The ceiling above his head burst open. 地震后顶掀了。 The floor rose and fell, tossing Leo into the air and dropping him. Plaster rained down from the ceiling and swirling dust filled Leo’s nose, eyes, and mouth. 地震场景 It looked like a furious giant had marched through the city, jumping over some houses and stomping on others. 地震后的场景 二、场景描写 It was rough country, but beautiful too, with streams as blue as the sky and fields of wildflowers that stretched out like rainbows. 美丽的乡野风景 The roof was half caved in. The huge chimney loomed against the black sky. The front window was shattered and the front door was hanging off its hinges. 破败的房子 The noise rose up around them, so loud that it hurt Leo’s ears. 噪音刺耳 But with each step, the stairway swayed. Beside him, Morris had his face turned up, enjoying the fresh, clear air. 阳光明媚 三、火的描写 Flames reached out of the windows, like bright orange arms trying to grab the houses all around it. 火的比喻 Garbage on the ground erupted into flames. The alley was now blocked by a wall of fire. Meanwhile, lightning sliced through the sky. And then —KABOOM! A lightning bolt struck a dead tree, turning it into a burning torch.
