A 1 OF 5 Replacing the 2489 Lamp When to Replace • If the lamp fails to ignite on power-up or does not pass power-up verification • If you are unable to calibrate the detector • When the energy level in the lamp causes a decrease in sensitivity to the point where the baseline is too noisy for your LC application • If the lamp no longer provides an adequate signal-to-noise ratio for your specific application NOTE: You can conserve the lamp’s energy by programming it to turn on and off auto- matically by using a timed event method. It is recommended that you do not turn the lamp off for time periods of less than 4 hours. Refer to the 2489 Operator’s Guide for instructions on how to turn the lamp ON/OFF. Parts Required • 2489 Performance Maintenance Kit, 201000186 Tools Required • Flat-blade screwdriver, WAT272058 Precautions • To avoid eye damage from ultraviolet radiation exposure, turn the detector off and strictly adhere to the following procedure when replacing a lamp. • Wear eye protection that filters ultraviolet light, and keep the lamp in the housing whenever the detector is on. • The lamp housing becomes extremely hot during operation. To prevent burns to the skin, allow the lamp to cool for one hour before removing it. • The lamp gas is under slight pressure. To prevent shattering the glass, use care when disposing of the old lamp. • Wear powder free, latex gloves whenever replacing a lamp. CAUTION: DO NOT TOUCH THE LAMP GLASS ON THE NEW LAMP. DIRT OR FINGERPRINTS WILL AFFECT LAMP PERFORMANCE. IF THE LAMP NEEDS CLEANING, GENTLY CLEAN THE GLASS WITH METHANOL AND LENS TISSUE. DO NOT USE ANY ABRASIVE TISSUE OR EXCESSIVE PR
