Please summarize the ways they try to be “sustainable” and share your points with a partner. Vancouver is the largest metropolitan area in Western Canada. At 5,335 people per km2 in 2006, it is the fourth most densely populated major city in North America, after New York City, San Francisco and Mexico City. Urban planning in this city is characterized by high-rise residential and mixed-use development in urban centers, as an alternative to sprawl. This has been credited in contributing to the city’s high rankings in livability. Warming-up Vienna is the capital of the Republic of Austria. A variety of architectural styles can be found in this city. Styles range from classicist buildings to modern architecture. The number of high-rise buildings is kept low by building legislation aimed at preserving green areas and districts designated as world cultural heritage. Strong rules apply to the planning, authorization and construction of high-rise buildings. Consequently, much of the inner city is a high-rise free zone. Warming-up Sydney is the largest and most populous city in Australia. The central business district (CBD) is bounded on the east side by a chain of parkland, and the west by Darling Harbour, a tourist and nightlife precinct. Although the CBD dominated the citys business and cultural life in the early days, other business and cultural districts have developed in a radial pattern since World War II. As a result, the proportion of white-collar jobs located in the CBD declined from more than 60 percent at the end of World War II to less than 30 percent in 2004. Warming-up Cope
