What Is Success ? Good morning, my dear judges. I am XX. I feel honored to share my speech with you. The title of my speech is “what is success”? Success, everyone is longing for it. However, what is success? There?are?a?thousand?Hamlets?in?a?thousand?peoples?eyes. Success has many different definitions depending on who you ask. The dictionary defines success as the accomplishment of one’s goal; the desired result of an attempt; or one that succeeds. Pop culture would have you think the success is all about money, fame and power. Actually, there is only one Bill Gates, so how about those unfulfilled lives and burnout among so called “successful people”? Are they losers ? Of course, no. When I walked on the street and saw the dustman, I think he is successful, he is performing his duty and making a better environment for us; When I stayed at the waiting room, a lady was talking about her baby, I saw the smile on her face, I think she is successful, she is doing her best to bring up a healthy child; When I stand here, facing you, I am nervous, but in my mind, you are successful, you are playing a role as a good listener and helping me to make progress. In Ralph Waldo Emerson’ s poetry, he wrote: “What is success? To laugh often and love much; To win the respect of intelligent people... To give ones self; To leave the world a little better...” I can’t agree with him more. In my opinion, success is living a happy life and making the world a litter better. In short, success means happy life and contribution. Then what is needed to succeed in life? Research in psychology has shown there are six essential aspects of happiness in life: Physical Health: If we use the number to stand for your possession, no matter how much you have, health is always the first. Without health, you will own nothing. Think about it, how long haven’t you done any sports? Mental Fitness: You need to be continuously engaging your mind.
