Unit 4 Why don’t you talk to your parents? The First Period (Section A1a Teaching aims: Knowledge goals: 1.New words: allow, wrong 2. Key phrases: enough sleep, too much, free time, allow…to… get into a fight with…, call sb. up, on the phone 3. Key structures: ---What should I do? ---You should… / Why don’t you…? I’m really tired because I studied until midnight last night. Ability goals: To improve the ability of listening and speaking. Moral goals: If you have problems, talk to others. Teaching importances and difficulties: Master new words and useful structures. Teaching aids: Tape recorder, computer or multimedia Teaching procedures: Step 1.Lead-in Show some pictures on the screen, then ask students the following question: What’s wrong with him/ her? Get students to describe each picture. Step 2. Presentation Read the problems in part 1a, then fill the chart with “serious” or “not serious”. Listening Listening to a conversation, then circle the problems you hear in 1a. Listen to it the first time, check the answers. Listen it again, and repeat after the tape player. Make conversations Look at the problems in 1a and make conversations. For example: A: What’s wrong? B: I’m really tired because I studied until midnight last night. A: Why don’t you go to sleep earlier this evening? Let several groups act in class. And give them a big hand. Step 3. Listening practice Peter is unhappy today because he had a fight with his best friend. Now, Peter’s another friend try to give him some advice. Listen to the tape player, just listen for the main idea. Listen to it a second time, then finish part 2a and 2b. Check the answers. Step 4 Groupwork Role-play a conversation between Peter and his friend. Make conversations in pairs.
