However, the fundamental definition of a media gateway remains consistent throughout, as all P media gateways are devices that: • Reside in a carrier or service provider central office and comply with carrier-class E requirements, such as NEBS Level 3 compliance (enterprise gateways and voice-enabled R integrated access devices are not included in our analysis of media gateways); • Provide a migration path from a circuit-switched telephony network to a data-centric network that supports packetized voice switching; P • Can interface with the SS7 network; and U • Are open, standards-based, and can interoperate with the call control and application
