The earliest people known in Britain were nomads from mainland of Europe in the Old Stone Age, followed by Neolithic（新石器时代） Iberians and the Beaker（比克） Folk in the bronze age, among others. Between 600BC and 43AD,there was a movement of Celtic（凯尔特） tribes also from Europe, bring an iron age civilization and two languages that become later Gaelic and Welsh. The Roman Conquest in 55 BC the Roman Empire invaded England and Wales which became part of the Roman Empire for nearly 400 years. They drove many of the Celtic people into the mountains in Scotland and Wales. The Romans introduced their civilization into England. They brought the Latin alphabet, their religion, Christianity to Britain. They built towns, temples, theatres, fine buildings and roads in England. The Romans established London as the capital . Influence of the Anglo-Saxon invasion The Anglo-Saxons brought along their language, old English and they were the forefathers of the English race and the founders of England. During the 8th and 9th centuries, a substantial numbers of Scandinavians (Vikings) raided and settled in the Britain and Ireland, but subdued and integrated by the Anglo-Saxon culture. In 1066 French Normans conquered England, adding yet another ethnic component.
