City buildings are very important carrier of the city from aspects of both natural environment and humanity history. Developing cities lose its historical and cultural featuresgradually, making city buildings into artifacts without soul.The globalization of urban architecture makes many modern urban architecture can be used widely, but, the negative effects caused a result that the internationalization and modernization of many cities become mediocre. The same building types are everywhere in our cities , the imitation and cloning of urban architecture makes them analogous to some extent.“It is the same in domestic and abroad ,in south and north.”Aiming at the city problem in reality, this paper ,based on architecture art culture, discussed how to shape urban architecture from material level and visual level .In the first part of this paper, the author introduced the background and origin of the subject, expounded the purpose and significance of the subject. And list some foreign cases and the current situation of local cities from theory, analysis, research, examples. Present the content and method of this paper, and get the conclusion by using the method of theory combining practice.Secondly, this paper described the plight of urban architectural features. Started from the research of the type and shape of dwellings in northern Guilin, this paper discussed the formation of urban architecture in Guilin and perception of resident by researching residents architectural theory under the nature environment and humanity environment. This paper explored how the mould culture connotation of tradition dwellings in northern Guilin influence the formation of architectural feature of local city in Guilin from macro to micro through its historical, geographical and folkloric nature.
