A tradition Courtesy: An act of paying respect for others General Courtesies Use of Titles Doctors, Nurses, Chaplains, etc Airmen Officers “Sir,” “Ma’am,” or “Sergeant” Full titles are always used in correspondence Titles may be shortened in conversation General Courtesies Rank and Grade What is Grade? Grade is a title (C/Amn, C/Col, 1Lt, Capt, Maj, etc) What is Rank? Rank is your seniority within a grade General Courtesies Honors to Individuals Salute Officers and Flight Officers CAP – both Senior and Cadet US Armed Forces Friendly Foreign Nations Junior salutes Senior Salutes are rendered outdoors, or indoors when reporting Verbal Greetings with salute Do not salute in formation General Courtesies Greetings Passing and Officer or NCO Officer enters a room when not engaged in a class What else do you do when an officer enters the room?
