CJOA-A COIN MISSION ESSENTIAL TASK: Conduct Relief in Place (RIP)(Escalation of force, ANSF partnership, Learn the Integrated Civil/Military Decision Making Structure) DESCRIPTION: Conduct a methodical relief in place with seamless continuity of situational awareness and effort with no disruption of operational momentum. The outgoing unit is responsible for the execution of the RIP.CONDITION: Given an appropriately task organized battalion or smaller unit, partnered with the ANSF, operating in a multi-national environment in an Afghan District level area of operations, with no interruption in operational tempo, the unit will achieve the following tasks:REFERENCES: Tasks and Standards:Task Title:Outgoing unitconducts a relief in placeTask Description: To replace all or part of another unit with the incoming unit (relieving unit) usually assumes the same responsibilities and deploys initially in the same configuration as the outgoing unit. Relief in place is executed for a number of reasons, including introducing a new unit into combat, changing a unit’s mission, relieving a depleted unit in contact, retaining a unit, relieving the stress of prolonged operations in adverse conditions.
