SHELTON CHALLENGE APPLICATION @ North Carolina Wesleyan College Application Deadline: Friday, May 20, 2011 NCWC Session Dates: July 10-15 GENERAL INFORMATION The Shelton Challenge is a six day residential experience designed to help students expand their knowledge and skills of what it takes to be a leader from the General H. Hugh Shelton Leadership Center at NC State University (/extension/sheltonleadership/leadership-programs/challenge.php). Students participate in activities designed to enhance their understanding of: Personal Leadership Assessment and Interpersonal Dynamics; Role of Values and Ethics in Leadership; Leadership Traits and Approaches; Teambuilding and Empowering Others; Civic and Social Responsibility; and Goal Setting. Students participate in team building activities, low and high ropes courses, service projects, and fun night activities. The following are required for individuals applying to the 2011 Shelton Challenge experience at North Carolina Wesleyan College (NCWC) in Rocky Mount: ? Rising 9th thru 12th grade students ? Applicants must have a 2.8 grade point average (unweighted) or higher COST TO ATTEND PROGRAM The cost to attend the NCWC Shelton Challenge six-day residential program is $450. This cost includes all curriculum materials, lodging and food, low and high ropes training, transportation during the week, and night activities. When submitting the application, please include a $100 deposit toward the final payment of $450 to hold space in the program (made out to “NCWC Shelton Challenge”). If the applicant is not accepted, the $100 deposit will be refunded. If the applicant is accepted, and the applicant then chooses not to attend the program, a refund will be provided up to one month prior to the selected date to attend the program. No refunds will be issued after June 10th if we have not been notified of applicant’s cancellation. FINANCIAL SCHOLARSHIPS There may be a limited number of need based scholarships. If you are interes
