AbstractRecently,videosignalprocessingtechnologyexperiencesarapiddevelopment,whichraiseshigherrequirementinoneofitscriticalcircuits----analog-to-digitalconverter.Asageneralanalog-to-digitalinterface,ADCiswidelyusedinmixedsignalcircuits.Duetothedevelopmentofdigitalsignalprocessingtechnologyandintegratedcircuittechnology,ADCisdevelopingtothephaseofhigherperformance,forexample,higherconversionspeed,higherresolution,lowerpowerdissipation,smallerarea.Basedonfull-custom,top-downintegratedcircuitdesignmethod,thispaperpresentsahighperformanceandlowpowerdissipationADC,usedastheanalog-to-digitalinterfaceofHDTVchip.AfteranalyzingthebasicprincipleofA/Dconversion,drawingacomparisonamongdifferentkindsofADCsandtakingconsiderationoftherequirementofADCinvideosystem,thispaperselectspipelinedarchitectureastheADCarchitecture.ComparedtootherADCarchitectures,pipelinedADCcanachievehighconversionspeedaswellashighresolution.Tradingoffbetweenspeedandpowerdissipation,8stage,1.5bit/stagepipelinedADCarchitectureisadoptedtoaccomplishthis3.3V,125MHz,9bitADC.InordertoensurethevalidityofpipelinedADCarchitectureandalgorithm,systemmodelingtool----SimulinkinMatlabisusedtomakeasystemsimulationofpipelinedADCbeforedesigningofcircuit.Thisguaranteestheeffectivenessofsystemarchitecture,andalsoevaluatesalloftheerrorsourcesthatmayaffectADCoutputresult.Incadencedesignenvironment,basedonTSMC0.35um3.3VCMOSmodel,thispaperdesignsandsimulatesallofthecircuitswhichconsistedinADC.Thepaperanalyzesanddesignsthefollowingsub-circuitsandfunctionalcircuitblocks:(1)Non-overlappingclockcircuit.Itisusedtocontrolthetime-consequenceofeachstageofpipelinedADC.(2)Analogswitch.CMOScomplementaryswitch,insteadofNMOSswitchisusedinswitch-capacitancecircuit.(3)Operationalamplifier.OperationalamplifieristhekeypartofADC.ItisthePMOStransistorsinput,foldedcascadearchitecture.Simulationresultshowsthatitsgainis91dB,bandwidthis450MHzandslewrateisabout500V/us.(4)Comparator.Highspeed,lowpowerdissipationcomparatorisdesignedinthispaper.Itcanoperate
