Intertextuality CONTENTS Since the intertextuality theory shows that no text can operate in a self-contained manner and be interpreted in isolation, it is natural for this theory to be introduced into translation studies. Translation is not a simple process of translating message from one language to another, but involves the transform of different cultures. So in the process of translation, its those intercultural and intertextual problems that confront translators with a real challenge. To achieve a successful translation, what the translator has to do is not only to explore and transfer the literal meaning of the source text, but also correctly interpret and expound the cultural meaning, during which the knowledge of intertextuality will be of great help to the translator.
