Form and Structure of a Business Letter Principles of Good Communication Generally, Business writing has only two goals: 1.To make people understand you. 2.To get them to take some action. Do you want your readers to: 1.buy your product or service? 2.confirm a decision? 3.simply like you and think you are good to do business with? For your reader to understand what you want (and then do it), he or she must first understand precisely what you mean in your writing. Principles of Good Communication To write effectively, to say what you mean, and to make sure your readers understand you, keep the following principles: Clarity Use appropriate words in correct sentence structure and convey your meaning. Straightforward and simple English are what needed for business letters. Principles of Good Communication Conciseness Write concisely and clearly and use a simple sentence structure. Courtesy be sincere and tactful, thoughtful and appreciative.
