T he results showed that the mean wet weight and dry weight of the over-ground parts of the indoor plants were heavier than thoseof theoutdoor plants by 72. 7% and 39.2 %, respectively; whereas themean wet weight and dry weight of theroot systems of the indoor plants were lighter than thoseof the outdoor plants by 36. 4% and 48.0% , respectively. Moreover, the indoor plants had arelatively smaller roots/ canopy ra- tio in comparison with the outdoor plants. ll the results indicated that the greenhouse environment en- hanced the absorption activity of the root system and was propitious to the growth of the over-ground part of plants. On the other hand, the plants did adaptation reaction to harmful outdoor environment through function compensation to lighten the menace action of adversity.
