Forbidden City Lying at the center of Beijing, the Forbidden City, called gugong, in Chinese, used to be the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is called the Palace Museum now. There are unique and delicately structured Towers on each of the four corners. The Meridian Gate, Wumen in Chinese, is the southern entrance of the Forbidden City.
