The guidance has three Parts:Part 1 is intended to inform Schools of their responsibilities under the Data Protection Act 1989 (the Act) in the context of sharing data with a third party.Part 2 provides advice on the technical standards and controls that must be considered before allowing a third party access to School data.Part 3of the guidance is in the form of a Model Questionnaire which Schools can adapt and use as a means of obtaining and recording the required assurances.PART 1 DATA PROTECTION GUIDANCE1.1 BackgroundSchoolsare Data Controllers under the Act, as they determine how and why personal data is collected. Schools are responsible for ensuring that such data is held securely and that access to it is managed.Often, Schools are adopting new technologies to deliver services, communicate with parents and help teachers collaborate.
