EXPERIMENT 2: BASEBAND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM WITH DIFFERENTIAL CODING AND NYQUIST FILTER DESIGN A. PREREQUISITES A basic knowledge of digital data communication (refer [1] Chapters 7 and 8), differential coding and (Nyquist) filter design principles and techniques. This work must be done in the lab book that has been specified for this purpose. For evaluation purposes, an extract of the relevant examples and results must be taken from the lab book and submitted in the form of a preliminary report to be handed in for evaluation on the scheduled date (usually a week before the day on which the experiment has to be performed - see lab time table in study guide). The contents of the preliminary report is specified below, but should in addition always include the theoretical design of all electronic circuits required to perform the experiment, including a detailed, complete block diagram of all circuitry constructed for this purpose. Circuits must be emulated in MATLAB/SimuLink, wherever possible (bonus marks will be awarded for expected results generated in this way). PLEASE NOTE: All the work, as well as subsequent experimental measurements, observations and conclusions must be thoroughly documented in your personal laboratory notebook. This work must be your own. No group work (except for common electronic circuitry) will be accepted and students copying from each other will be heavily penalized. Note the University’s policies regarding plagiarism in this regard! (refer study guide for details and references). Only copies of sketches from textbooks and other reference sources may be pasted into the labbook, and not the results and personal observations of fellow students.
