Rolled p lat es of 4 mm t hickness were u sed as t he ba se mat erial for p rep aring single p a ss butt welded j oint s. Ten sile and imp act p rop erties , microhar dness , micro st ruct ure and fract ure surface morp holo gy of t he welded j oint s have been evaluat ed and t he result s are comp ared . From t hi s investigation , it i s found t hat gas t ungst en arc welded j oint s of ferritic st ainless st eel have sup erior t en sile and imp act p rop erties comp ared wit h shielded met al arc and gas met al arc welded j oint s and t hi s i s mainly due to t he p resence of finer grain s in fu sion zone and heat affect ed zone .
