It is 15 days long starting on from the first day of the first lunar month of the Chinese calendar. The Chinese New Year period ends with Yuan Xiao Jie, on the fifteenth day of the festival. Chinese calendar is old calendar in chine,the Chinese calculates the date according to moons change.The spring festival is the first day of new year spring.So its called spring festival.The another name is called the Spring Festival Past Year in pinyin is Guo Nian. What is the nian?It is a very old story for this. Long, Long time ago, there’s a monster who lived in sea regularly came out to eat humans as its food. One day when it sought for humans in village, an old man wearing red clothes was burning bamboos, Nian scared and went away.From then people know how to deal with Nian. When it’s time for Nian’s coming, people will wear red clothes, post red paper, and ignite firecracker to avoid its coming.Later people named this monster as Nian. And so people call the day past nian. Of course,it is just a fairy story . But,the tradition just like wear red clothes,post red paper,ignite firecrackerkeep to now . The spring festival is the most and the bigest festival in China.
