To prevent the pond bottom from silting up, and for the convenience of cleaning, a pilot pond was designed to simulate a 50 cm gravel filter layer. The experiment attempts to explore how the filter layer affects infiltration velocity after water is channelled in for recharge. This experiment took a total of 17 days, of which 7 days were for ordinary recharge testing and after that 10 days were for the testing of sand silting. The recharge amount was about 9,000 m3/day and the average infiltration velocity decreased from 16.17m/day to 4.7 m/day. The cause of this decrease is that after sand was replaced the fine-grained soil began to clog the pores, thereby retarding the infiltration velocity. The filter layer was subsequently divided and sampled and then, drawing on a soil grain size distribution graph, an analysis was conducted to obtain a fine-grained soil silting depth of about 50 cm.
