Unit 15 Salvation Purposes 1. To get students know something about Jesus and Christianity. 2. To understand the purpose of writing and the organization of the text. 3. To reinforce some basic linguistic knowledge by doing various types of exercises. About the text How is the story organized? II. Structural analysis of the text Main idea of each part: Part One 1 --- This part introduces the background. Part Two (2-5) --- Langston recounts what he has heard about Jesus from the le people and how he waits piously for Jesus to come. Part Three 6 --- The conflict becomes intensified when all the young people have gone to the altar but Langston and Westley. Part Four (7-10)---The climax is reached when Langston is left unsaved after his last fellow sinner is saved by telling a lie. Part Five (11-14)--- The conflict is resolved when Langston also tells a lie and is thus “saved” from both sin and trouble. Part Six 15 --- It reveals Langston’s guilty conscience about telling a lie and his disillusionment with religion. III. some difficult sentences, words or phrases 1.
