The patented high sensitivity photodiode also enables ultra-low power proximity sensing. The single-pulse sensing contributes to a very short infrared LED on-time, enabling this product to be utilized in end-products that were previously unavailable. The multiple control modes for optimal accuracy and detection range also enable configuring the system for power efficiency. Competing solutions often require multiple bursts to overcome fluorescent flicker. These multiple bursts nullify the ability to work in battery operated systems and for user detection to power down sub-systems. You may be familiar with capacitive sensing slider solutions. The F800 is capable of implementing capacitive sliders. Similarly, Silicon Labs has pioneered a touch-less slider with the Si1120 and an accompanying MCU. Remember the dual-infrared LED block diagram that was presented in a previous slide. That system portrays an infrared touch-less slider. The Si1120 contains a single LED driver that the MCU multiplexes between the two infrared LEDs. The Si1120 measures the reflectivity during each LEDs on-time. A time plot of the reflectivity values are displayed in the graph below. You can easily see that as a hand travels from one end of the slider to the other that the two reflectivity values peak at distinctly different times. The position on the virtual slider is determined by the ratio of the two reflectivity values.
