T he objective o f th is study w as to investigate the feasib ility o f earthw o rm feed directly on excess slu dge and the effect of earthw orm on m e tal accum ulating under low m ultiplication rate. Excess slu dge from N ingbo m un ic ip al sew age plant w as u sed in the pot exp ermi ent. T he result s show ed th at new excess sludge w as eatable to earthw orm s. E arthw o rm s could accumu late heavy m e tals in sew age slu dge , and w ith cu ltur ing tmi e increas ing , the concentration s of heavy m eta ls in earthw orm s increased. A cco rd ing to the cu ltur ing m ethods, the con centration s o f heavy m e tals in ea rthw orm s increased high po int after about four m onth s, and m ultiplication ra te of earthw o rm s w as low er th an th at by u sing conventiona l cu ltur ing m e thods.
