USSR STATE STANDARD HOISTING CRANES BASIC PROVISIONS OF DESIGN GOST 28609-90 USSR STATE COMMITTEE FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF PRODUCTS QUALITY AND STANDARDS Moscow USSR ST ATE S T ANDARD HOISTING CRANES GOST 28609-90 Basic provisions of design Date of introduction 01.01.92 The present standard covers overhead traveling and cantilever cranes and defines the basic recommended design provisions in order to ensure reliability in the process of installation, assembly and operation. 1. GENERAL PROVISIONS 1.1. Cranes and their elements shall be designed according to the approved normative technical documentation. In justified cases it is allowed to perform design based on the results of theoretical and experimental research or with use of engineering methods. 1.2. The results of designing shall ensure the preservation of the load-carrying capacity of the crane and its elements as well as their reliability at set performance characteristics during the specified service life provided that the crane is manufactured, installed and used according to the normative technical and operational documentation. 1.3. In the process of designing one should take into account the following design situations: steady-state situation that has duration of the same order as the service life of the crane or its elements until the write-off or overhaul (if overhaul is per
