As the first Confucius Institute in New Zealand, it was launched by the then Prime Minister, the Rt Hon. Helen Clark on 16th February 2007. The Institute is deeply involved in the New Zealand community, working in close collaboration with many existing organisations to help and encourage New Zealanders with an interest in China to learn more about the country, its language and culture and to engage more fully with China. Our programs include Confucius Classrooms, New Zealand Principals’ Delegation to China, Mandarin Language Assistants, Chinese teachers’ professional development workshops, symposiums, Confucius Institute scholarships to secondary and tertiary students, students camps in China, Chinese examinations, speech and essay competitions, Chinese language and culture course
