Originally, it was planned as a junior college of industry and business; however, the Ministry of Education’s final decision was to approve it as a junior college of industry. In August 1971, The Evening School of the two-year junior college program was established; and in July 1991 the business departments were finally set up and the school was renamed Kun Shan Institute of Technology. In August 1996, under the order of the Ministry of Education, it was promoted to a technological college with an affiliated junior college on campus. The Evening School was then changed to The Department of Continuing Education. In 2000, this school was again promoted and officially changed to Kun Shan University. Within the university, five colleges were established: College of Engineering, College of Commerce and Management, College of Humanities, College of Creative Media and College of Information Technology.
