论英国女性文学的觉醒 （英语专业） 学生 指导教师 ABSTRACT The female literature was divided into three periods. They are Feminine, Feminist and Female. The world that female literature described was far different from that of men’ literature. Therefore, the peculiarities in female literature make people get deeper understanding of it, and also make people face up to its social significance. In general, the female literature in England has already had a history of about three hundred years. Before the 18th century, the literary world in England was a world of men. We can’t hear the words expressing women’s heart, their hope, happiness and sorrow. In a word, the female world in literature is nearly blank. The traditional conception deprives women of their chance to show their abilities in literary world. Women’s lower position, dependent economy and bad education made the early female literature in England unable to develop. Till the 18th century, with the transformation of social conventions, the spread of education, as well as the awakening of female consciousness, the female literature in England was well-developed. A group of gifted female writers began to put their abilities to good use on men’s territory. Among so many prominent female writers of England in18th century, Jane Austen and Bronte Sisters are most conspicuous. And their works—Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre—are two shining points in English female literature. The real starting point of female literature in England dated back to the works of Bronte Sisters. Bronte Sisters’ works, especially the publishment of Jane Eyre, was a significant turning point in the history of female literature in England, signing the real awakening of female literature. The development of female literature in England itself stands for progress.
