University of Science andTechnology Beijing, Beijing 100083, China) Abstract: Using finite elementm ethods, the buckling behavior of cylindrical shells w ith large rectangular opening was analyzed. E igen valuebucklingwas firstly carried out to predict the buckling mode and critical load. The result shows that the upper lmi it buckling critical load of cylindricalshellw ith rectangular opening ismuch less than the lower lmi it value of the perfect cylindricalshell and thebuckling load of cylindricalshellw ith rectangular opening ismainly affected by the radiustothickness ratio of the shell. The critical load declines sharplyw ith the increase of the radiustothickness ratio. By smi ulating the dynam ic response of structureunder seism icwave using finite element program, the variation of structure s acceleration and displacement under different liquid levelwas studied.
