Gao2 1 School of Materials Science Engineering, Shaanxi University of Science Technology, Xi’an 710021, PR China 2 Key Laboratory of Auxiliary Chemistry Technology for Chemical Industry, Ministry of Education, Xi’an 710021, PR China Abstract: The Bi O -SiO (BS) glass-ceramics were prepared by melt-quench technique, and the 2 3 2 crystallization kinetics and phase transformation behavior were investigated in accordance with Kissinger and Johson-Mehl-Avrami equation, DSC, XRD and SEM. The results show that in the heat treatment process (or termed as re-crystallizing process) Bi2SiO5 and Bi Si O crystals were found consequently. Respectively, the crystallization activation 4 3 12 energies of the two crystals are E =14.8kJ/mol and E =34.1kJ/mol. And the average p1 p2 crystallization index of n =1.73 and n =1.38 suggested volume nucleation, one-dimensional 1 2 growth and surface nucleation, one-dimensional growth from surface to the inside respectively. The meta-stable needle-like Bi2SiO5 crystals are easily to be transformed into stable prismatic Bi Si O crystals. By quenching the melt and hold
