In rewriting this booklet, I have relied a great deal on Peggy’s ideas and approach for Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7. Chapter 6 appears in a similar form in the booklet, Introduction to Diﬀerential Calculus, which was written by Christopher Thomas. In her original booklet, Peggy acknowledged the contributions made by Mary Barnes and Sue Gordon.
