AbstractVocabulary has always played a crucial role in English teaching. Many junior middle school students think that vocabulary is too hard to memorize. They memorize vocabulary mechanically，or they can’t memorize them at all. Sometimes, they forget them easily. Gradually, they don’t have enough time and energy to memorize vocabulary and they lose their interest in learning English. Word-formation is an important branch of English Lexicology. This method reveals the formation, and the principles of formation of vocabulary. This paper analyzes the junior middle school English words and uses the method of word-formation (compounding, derivation, conversion and the others) to teach students how to memorize vocabulary and guide the English teaching at the same time. There are 1778 English words in junior middle school English books, of which 640 words can be taught by using word-formation method.
