T he re lation ship betw een the m em ber deform ation and the story drift w as studied to rea lize the application of th is index to d isplacem en tb ased seism ic design of reinforced concrete ( RC ) fram es. F irstly, the equ ation s to de term ine the ratio o f story drift contribu ted by the de form ation s of beam s to the tota l story dr ift for fram es in elastic state w ere derived by elast ic ana lysis of the sub structure. Secondly, the expression s to estmi ate th is contribution ra t io prov ided by beam s, reflecting the influences of the relative st iffness and streng th ratios bewt een beam s and co l um n s and the level o f the inelastic interstory deform at ion, w ere develop ed on the b asis o f statistica l analysis of the resu lts from nonlinear tmi e history analysis of 15story RC fram es. F inally, a case stu dy w as carried out, wh ich show s good ag reem ent betw een analyt ic results and expermi ental results. T he dem ands on the story drift can be con verted int
