Sidorov The characteristics and a brief description of the construction of a sterilization system using 3 MeV accelerated electrons with 2.5 kW beam power are presented. A special feature of the system is local radiation protection which lowers the radiation level 100 mm from the outer surface of the system to 1 µSv/h. A new compact radiation system for sterilizing food products, medical objects, mail, and so on consists of a UÉL-3-2.5 linear accelerator with a scanner and an irradiation chamber with a system for transporting the objects to be irra- diated (see Fig. 1). A specific feature of this system is local radiation protection, which makes it possible for the servicing personnel to stand next to it with the beam on.
