National Electric Power Dispatch and Communication center, Beijing 1007 1, China) ABSTRACT: Saturation characteristics on load of large synchronous 1 generators under abnormal or critical operation condition are studied systemically by means of FEM method.The effects of space position of resultant magnetic field and exciting current on saturation curves , are studied in detail.Taking 300 MW turbogenerator and 40 MW , , hydrogenerator as examples, the saturation curve series representing , the relation of air gap E. M. F and resultant current with parameters , of rotor angle and exciting current are obtained. According to the new curves, the value of resultant current, corresponding to a given E , may be 40% greater than the value determined by noload , characteristics when the generator has a bigger rotor angle and a greater exciting current in comparison with the ratedworking condi tion.
