* Visualization exercise: ask the audience to put down their pencils and take some time to think and visualize about their life and determine what has been the most difficult change that they had to make in their lives. Ask the audience about how much time it took them to move into action. * Stages of change are dynamic. People can go back and forth from one stage of change to the other. In addition to this, people can be in different stages at the same time in regards to different aspects of the addiction treatment process. E.g. Somebody can be in the action stage of change for his alcohol use but in pre-contemplation on stopping or reducing the use of tobacco. Explain that the stages of change to stop or reduce the use of drugs can occur over years, sometimes even decades. People can stay in a contemplation or determination/preparation stage for a long period of time before starting the action stage. It is usually a long process that also may go back to previous stages. * * * * * * * * * * * * Summarize the stages of change making emphasis that it is a dynamic process that make take years, specially in the contemplation and determination/preparation stages. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Ask your audience to stand up and move to the end of the classroom. Tell them that you will name a list of things that might be motivating or not to them at the current moment. They should choose moving or not depending on how motivating that thing is for them. If they move, they can move from 1 to 3 steps forward (one if it is little motivating, 3 if it is very motivating to them). They also may choose to move back (one step is if it is little discouraging to 4 steps it is very discouraging). Since Icebreakers are meant to create interaction in the audience, you may ask each participant to name something that it is motivating for them and see the reaction among others. E.g. Motivating things your can name: water, ice-cream, donuts, coffee, tea, Your partners saying “I love you
