Conventionalbeamtocolumn welded moment connectionsw ere designed by bolting the shear tab to the beam web and welding the beam flange to the column flange. xperimental results of pre vious fullscale testing have demonstrated that this type of connection generally failed by brittle fracture of the beam flange near the WAH regions. In this study, nonlinear finite element analysis was performed to investigate the effect of the WAH on seismic behavior of moment connection, including the effect of the WAH geometry on distributions of stress and strain in the connection. Analytical results show that the WAH smoothly joining to the beam flange can e liminate the highest plastic strain occurring at the root of the WAH, mitigate the stress concentration due to the dis continuity at the WAH, andreduce the local ductility demand. Moreover, connection without theWAH can get rid of the defect resulting from the existence of the WAH, and significantly enhance the ductility of the connection. Keywords: beamtocolumn connection;
