Discussion on the University#39;s general education practice in a misunderstanding Abstract General Education from the ancient Greek concept of liberal education. At present, the major Chinese universities to “embed” approach to the implementation of general education, into a serious misunderstanding, this is a source of general education ineffective. With regard to possible ways of general education, the article to make two suggestions: First, they must reflect the targeting of higher education, second is to establish an overall concept. The author believes that the University’s general education practice in China has some serious errors, which is the root of general education ineffective. This paper tries to explore the basic concepts of general education of such errors, and to explore possible ways of China’s college education. First, the basic concepts of general education Is generally believed that “general education” origins can be traced back to ancient Greece, the “free education.” This “liberal education” originally refers to a small number of people able to enjoy free education, it is not concerned about the practical purpose, focusing on cultivating the mind, the pursuit of the harmonious development of body and mind; content, which includes “Seven Arts”, grammar, rhetoric, dialectics, arithmetic, astronomy, geometry and music subjects. “Free education” philosophy and curriculum had a significant impact, the West has been continued this tradition.
