And now there is a growing tendency for companies both domestically and abroad to apply Employee Stock Ownership Plan due to the concrete advantages. Still, different voice could be heard towards ESOP about its negative impact. Therefore, it is of significance to have a look into ESOP in a comprehensive way. This paper will take Huawei as a typical example, seeking to explore one of its secrets in motivation, Employee Stock Ownership Plan and provide some references for other companies. INTRODUCTION Huawei, founded in 1988 by Ren Zhengfei, is a private high technology company that is owned entirely by its employees. From its humble beginning, today it has rapidly grown to be China’s biggest manufacturer of equipment for the telecommunications industry. On the way to expand the market, like other corporations, Huawei inevitably went through the challenge of high staff turnover. However, under the leadership of Ren Zhengfei, some revolutions related to ESOP took place in the company and ultimately Huawei manages to build up a dynamic atmosphere where employees are highly motivated, thus bettering employee retention. EMPLOYEE STOCK OWNERSHIP PLAN According to Louis O. Kelso, the pioneer of ESOP, it is a type of employee benefit plan which enables?working people without savings to buy stock in their employer company and pay for it out of its future dividend yield.
