Course Form for PKU Summer School International 2017 Title in English: Chinese Culture and Sino-Arab Course Title Exchanges Title in Chinese: 中国文化与中阿交流 Teacher Prof. Lin Fengmin 林丰民教授 First day of July 3, 2017 classes Last day of July 14, 2017 classes 2 credits (30 class hours) Course Credit *The course lasts for two weeks, and is arranged as 3 hours each day on weekdays. Course Description Objective： This course gives an overview of Chinese culture and Sino-Arab exchanges to help foreign students better understand China’s historical tradition s well as its social, cultural and diplomatic development. It consists of ten lectures with various topics given by scholars and diplomats in Arabic and English. Students are required to participate in class interaction and complete the assigned homework or essay to take full advantage of the course in a short period of time. Pre-requisites /Target audience This course is for anyone interested in Chinese culture and Sino-Arab relations. However, the language of instruction is Arabic, and proficiency in Arabic is a must. Proceeding of the Course The course will be delivered through ten lectures and related discussions. The topics are as follow: (1) Ancient Chinese Culture (2) Contemporary Chinese Culture (3) Ancient Chinese Clothing Culture (4) Peking Opera and Chinese Culture (5) The Legislation Process in China; Chinese Ethics and Morality (6) Language Policy in China and the Arabic-speaking World (7) Classical Chinese Poetry and Chinese Culture (8) Contemporary Sino-Arab Diplomatic Relationship (9) China’s Middle East Policy (10) Contemporary Sino-Arab Cultural Exchange Assignments (essay or other forms) One essay after 10 sessions.
