Primary ESOL News March 2016. UC Education Plus - Literacy Language Learning Te Waipounamu Greetings, Kia ora, Ni hao, Shalom, Namaste, Al salaam aalaykum, Dia Duit Professional learning and development: A focus on providing professional learning for schools is a part of the Ministry of Education centrally allocated process. In Te Waipounamu, PLD for English Language Learners is provided from Literacy, Language, Te Waipounamu team – a consortium between the University of Canterbury and the University of Otago with 12 facilitators across the South Island. In the Secondary sector, the national ELLs team is led from Te Tapuae o Rehua, a consortium of Ngāi Tahu, the University of Canterbury and the University of Otago. There are 5 facilitators nationally. Both ELLs contracts also have ‘sites of expertise’ providing some localised ELL provision. ELLs’ facilitators use a self-review process involving school leaders as part of their scoping in order to identify a school action plan. PLD provision is targeted and tailored to each school context. Workshops in 2016: ? Leading Literacy Learning ( a series of half day workshops for Literacy/ELLs leaders) The key focus of this series of workshops is to provide a community of learning for Literacy/ELLs Leaders. In the workshops we will focus on the role of literacy leaders in inspiring others, and leading change in their school. We will draw on up-to-date research and practice of leadership of literacy and English language learners.
