Analysis of MPLS Multipath Routing with the failure and repair of LSPs Tien Van Do1, De?nes Papp1, Ram Chakka2, Xuan Mai Thi Truong1 1Department of Telecommunications Budapest University of Technology and Economics do@hit.bme.hu 2Rajeev Gandhi Memorial College of Engineering Technology (RGMCET), Nandyal, India ramchakka@ Abstract Efficient operation of multipath routing is considered as one of the important aspects in MPLS traffic engineering. Multipath routing has an advantage over the traffic routing based on single shortest paths because single path routing may lead to unbalanced traffic situations and degraded QoS (Quality of Service). This paper proposes a novel model for the performance evaluation of multipath routing in MPLS networks. The paper applies the MM ∑K k=1 CPPk/GE/c/L G-queue to model the operation of ingress nodes and derives equations to obtain their performance measures. 1 Introduction Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is the recent development of IETF in response to the explosive growth of the Internet [5]. One of the aims of the MPLS development is to expand the granularity of administrative traffic control (i.e.: Traffic Engineering) [1]. Efficient operation of multipath routing is considered as one of the important aspects in MPLS traffic engineering [1]. Multipath routing has an advantage over traffic routing based on single shortest paths because single path routing may lead to unbalanced traffic situations and degraded QoS (Quality of Service) in some cases (even if the network is not so overloaded). In MPLS networks multiple LSPs (label switched path) can be established between MPLS ingress and egress nodes to enhance the network performance and QoS (Quality of Service) for subscribers. Previous works on the performance of multipath routing were only done with simulations [8, 9, 6]. Moreover, the mentioned works considered the impact of multipath routing in a network- scale, but did not deal with the operation of network nodes. Cidon
