Research India Publications Practical Ways of Advancing Quality in Education in Nigeria Using the Systems Model Professor victor F. Peretomode Professor of Educational Administration Higher Education, Faculty of Education, Delta State University, ABRAKA, NIGERIA ABSTRACT The issue of quality in education is a major source of concern to national leaders and the public among nations of the world. Despite the emptiness and multifaceted nature of the term, the search to achieve quality education goes on unabated. This paper takes a look at the review of literature in the area and outlines ways by which system approach could be applied to advancing quality in the education system in Nigeria. The system model emphasizes input-process-outcome. The paper emphasizes the importance of real investment in educational inputs (human and material resources) and the transformation processes in order to achieve quality education. This is not a call to throwing money about education but to providing adequate resources coupled with commitment on the part of government to formulate and implement appropriate educational policies as a nation, targeted at achieving quality and equity in education.
