A Financial Management Consultation Expert System with Constraint Satisfaction and Knowledge Re nement Pedro Garca del Valle y Duran and Takahira Yamaguchi Department of Computer Science Graduate School of Engineering Shizuoka University Johoku 3-5-1, Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, 432 Japan fgarcia,yamagutig@cs.shizuoka.ac.jp Abstract This paper describes an expert system that integrates dierent sorts of expertise for nancial management consultation: the quantitative-qualitative nancial indices, their relationship equations and the enterprise management policies represented by knowledge production rules. The innovative idea is that it incorporates the Constraint Satisfaction Paradigm (CSP) and the Best- rst Search (BFS) techniques to guide the task, which evaluates the nancial health condition of a company in a routine way, mirroring the processes of a certi ed public accountant, in order to determine which management policies are the best to be applied. The expert system performs a set of numerical simulations that incorporate the aspects of Knowledge Re nement and Qualitative Simulation under company cases, applying series of re nement strategies for the parameters of the nancial knowledge base and the heuristic searching control functions. The integrated inference engine performance and eciency with the heuristic functions selected to enforce the convergence of the problem solvers combined are depicted.
