The database was implemented according to previously defined GIS data model that was defined according to proposed data model of The Water Framework Directive (WFD) and specialized in order to satisfy local needs. Executed data acquisition, which includes analysis of watersheds using MicroImages TNTmips and classification of water bodies using Leica Erdas Imagine, has given large amount of data that should be stored in the database according to specified scheme. This paper presents implemented database scheme in Oracle Database Management System and methods for storing data about water bodies and river basins. Keywords: water management, GIS data model, WFD, oracle database, river basin, water body INTRODUCTION The GIS of Serbian Republic Water Management Authority is being implemented as part of the National Project for Regulation, Protection and Use of Water in Serbia. The main objective of this national project is the optimal management of water resources in conformance with principles of sustainable development and European standards. This project, being responsible for one of the main themes, water, will contribute significantly to the development of the national spatial data infrastructure. The main basis for the project is the Water Framework Directive (WFD) which was published and entered into force in December 2000.
