An Analysis on Language Borrowings between English and Chinese Abstract A language has inevitably borrowed words from other languages to enrich its vocabulary and enhance its expressive power. Throughout the history of language borrowings, the English language and the Chinese language have borrowed not only numbers of words from each other, but also a multitude of words from other languages. The creation of borrowing is not only a pure linguistic phenomenon but also a kind of social and cultural phenomenon. Through the comparative study, we have seen that there are many differences between the borrowings in the English language and the Chinese language, and these differences have resulted from linguistic factors such as the writing systems of these two languages and non-linguistic factors such as the development of science and technology. So this paper intends to identify the differences between the borrowings in English and Chinese, it begins with a brief introduction of the content of the paper. The next part gives an account of historical perspectives on the borrowings. Then it focuses on types of borrowing foreign words into the respective vocabulary of English and Chinese. The last puts an emphasis on the comparison of the borrowings between the English language and the Chinese language from the perspectives of range of source languages, number and influence. The conclusion of the whole paper shows the reasons and influence of borrowing words. It is hoped that this research can serve as a reference in dealing with borrowings. Keywords: foreign words; language borrowings; difference; influence 摘 要 一种语言是不可避免的要靠借助外来语来丰富自己的词汇和提高自己的表达能力。纵观语言借词的历史，英语和汉语的借词不仅互相借鉴，而且也从别的语言中借鉴了很多的词汇。借词的产生不仅是一种语言学上的现象，也是一种社会文化的产物。通过对比的研究，我们可以知道英语借词与汉语借词的显著的区别以及这些区别起因于语言学的因素像是两种语言的写法不同，或者是起因于非语言学的原因，例如科学技术的发展等。本篇文章为了能够定义英语借词与汉语借词的区别，将会在引言里给我们介绍一下关于借词的一些基本知识，在第一部分中将会介绍借词产生的历史的背景，然后会重点的关注英语借词与汉语借词的种类，最后则会从不同的角度，背景等对英语借词和汉语借词进行比较分析，总结全文的部分会总述借词的产生的原因及影响，希望这一文章可以作为以后借词研究的参考。 关键词：外国词语；借词；区别
