The Chinese mainland is flanked to the east and south by the Bohai, Yellow, East China and South China seas. A total of over 5,000 islands dot Chinas territorial waters. The largest of these is Taiwan. The island coastline measures approximately 14,000 km. 　　China is bordered by Korea to the east; Mongolia to the north; Russia to the northeast; Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to the northwest; Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Sikkim and Bhutan to the west and southwest; and Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar to the south. 　　Across the seas to the east and southeast of China are Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei.
