Deixis 3.1指示的含义和用法 3.1.1 指示的语用含义 指示这一术语指的是在语言活动中，尤其是在有一名说话人和至少一名听话人参与的这种典型的语言交际活动中，对参与者所谈及的人物、事物、事件、过程和活动等作出确切的理解都必须把它们和某些语境构成要素（如交际的时间、空间等）联系起来的这一现象。 Deixis is the name given to those formal properties of utterances which are determined by, and which are interpreted by knowing, certain aspects of the communication act in which the utterance in question can play a role. These include (1) person deixis; (2) place deixis; (3) time deixis; (4) discourse deixis; (5) social deixis(C.Fillmore,1997). 指示是一个带有普遍性的语言现象，在任何一种语言中都存在，不同语言中用于指示的词项和语法范畴也大同小异。在英语中，这些词项和语法范畴包括人称代词、指示代词、定冠词以及一些表示时间和地点的副词。这些词统称为指示词项或者指示词语。除了这些指示词项之外，还有其他具有指示功能的词语。 例： 保质期三个月。 如果不注明食品的生产或包装日期，消费者就无从知道这三个月该从哪一天算起。“三个月”这个指示性的时间状语在缺乏必要的语境的情况下无法向交际对象传递明确的信息。 不是这个，也不是这个；就是这个，就是这个家伙抢了我的钱包。 如果只听不看，便会不知所云，可见身临其境对语言理解的重要。 3.1.2 指示词语的两种用法 指示词语有两种用法，一种是手势语的用法(gestural usage)，另一种是象征型(symbolic usage)的用法。 姿势性指示词语通常和副语言特征一起使用，例如用来指点、甩一下头、使一个眼色等等。象征型的指示词语在使用时不一定有手势。往往只是包括交际活动发生的时间、地点在内的更大范围的时间和地点以及参与者。具备一定的语境知识，我们不必身临其境，也不必重现交际场景便可以理解其指示的意义。 A word or expression can be used in three different ways. We will call gestural, symbolic, and anaphoric. By the gestural use of a deictic expression we mean that use by which it can be properly interpreted only by somebody who is monitoring some physical aspect of the communication situation; by the symbolic use of a deictic expression we mean that use whose interpretation involves merely knowing certain aspects of the speech communication situation; by the anaphoric use of an expression we mean that use which can be correctly interpreted by knowing what other portion of the same discourse the expression is coreferential with(C.Fillmore,1997).
